Best Martial Arts Movies for Adults
Billy Jack - In
this movie, a Hapkido expert defends a hippie commune. I love
the scene where he says that he is going to kick someone's head
and there is nothing that they can do to stop him.
Blood Sport -
This martial arts movie starred Jean-Claude Van Damme. I always
liked the martial arts training scenes in this movie... as long
as I did not have to partake in this "kick the tree" type of
training. :)
Chinese
Connection - Another solid Bruce Lee film where he defeats the
"evil Japanese".
Crouching
Tiger, Hidden Dragon - This martial arts film is the highest
grossing foreign language film in American history.
Drunken Master
- Jackie Chan stars in this martial arts comedy. A nice movie
but I prefer the 60s Hong Kong versions.
Enter the
Dragon - "Enter the Dragon" is probably Bruce Lee's most famous
movie. I also liked John Saxon who played Roper - the martial
arts "hustler" in this film.
Fearless - Jet
Li fights a variety of foreign opponents (i.e. boxer, fencer,
etc.). Well-done fight scenes.
Fist of Legend
- Jet Li stars in this movie.
Fists of Fury -
This was Bruce Lee's first major movie and it made him a star.
Ip Man - This
movie focuses on Bruce Lee's martial arts teacher.
Iron Monkey -
Iron Monkey is a Kung Fu version of Robin Hood.
Karate Kid
(with Ralph Macchio)
- A
good movie for kids because it teaches the value of practice and
friendship. Wax on, wax off!
Kill Bill
(Volumes 1 and 2) - Okay, Uma Thurman is not the best martial
artist in the world but the movie has great visuals and interesting scenes.
Kung Fu Hustle
- Kung Fu, comedy, dance routines and battles against the Axe
Gang and The Beast.
Kung Fu Panda -
Great animated martial arts film for families. Kids & adults
will enjoy watching it together. In regards to Kung Fu
Panda 2, my boys liked it but I did not.
Legend of the
Drunken Master - Sequel to Drunken Master.
The Matrix -
Everyone loves the spectacular "slow motion" martial arts moves
in "The Matrix". FYI - I wish that I could just easily
"download" martial arts techniques like Neo. :) Unfortunately, I have to
sweat & practice
like everyone else.
Ong Bak - This
violent martial arts movie focuses on Muay Thai.
The Raid:
Redemption - An Indonesian martial arts film where a SWAT team
has to take on an entire building full of thugs. Quite exciting
& very violent.
Seven Samurai -
"The Seven Samurai" is my favorite martial arts movie. A poor
village hires seven samurai to defend them against hundreds of
bandits. The American cowboy movie "The Magnificent Seven"
with Yul Brenner was based on
this Japanese movie.
Shaolin - A
2011 martial arts movie with Jackie Chan and Andy Lau.
13 Assassins -
A samurai movie where the heroes must defeat an evil official.
36th Chamber of
Shaolin - This is supposed to be one of the greatest Kung Fu
movies ever made.
Unleashed
- Jet
Li as "Danny the Dog". Enough said!
The Way of the
Dragon - In this Bruce Lee movie, Chuck Norris dies!!!
Yojimbo - This
Japanese martial arts movie was the basis for Clint Eastwood's
"A Fistful of Dollars".

Karate Kid - Latest Karate
Kid version with Will Smith's kid.
Kung Fu Panda -
Great animated martial arts film for kids. In regards to Kung Fu
Panda 2, my boys liked it but I did not.
Shaolin Soccer - This comedy
focused on a group of Shaolin "brothers" who use their martial
arts knowledge to excel at soccer. :) Their final match is
against TEAM EVIL.

- A kid-friendly martial arts movie with Chuck Norris and Joe
Piscopo. Focuses on an asthmatic boy dealing with bullies.

- The young female star of this movie actually has a black belt
in Taekwondo.
New or Recent Martial Arts Movies
